PROFHILO TREATMENT
BY Dr Berry
Profhilo is an injectable anti-ageing treatment made from hyaluronic acid for skin that is losing its elasticity and firmness with age. It can be used on the face, neck, decollete, arms, hands and knees, or any part of your body where the skin shows visible signs of ageing. There is an immediately noticeable improvement in skin tone, hydration as well as firmness, and lines are minimised.

Hyaluronic acid is best known as a ‘filler’ and is usually used to give volume to lips or to contour other areas of the face. Profhilo differs from the usual fillers in a number of ways due to its structure which allows it to flow over an extended area to boost hydration and smooth or ‘remodel’ the skin.
The Treatment.
Profhilo treatments target skin tone, texture, hydration and overall radiance. It can help to increase firmness and elasticity and promote healthier and softer-looking skin. It’s commonly used to rejuvenate the face, neck, décolleté, arms, knees and hands.

We recommend the full treatment which consists of two sessions, one month apart.
Profhilo can be used on its own or in conjunction with other fillers, laser treatments or anti-wrinkle injections as a complementary, rather than a competitive treatment.

Downtime following treatment is minimal. Avoid physical strain and sports on the first day after the treatment, and don’t have a sauna or steamy bath for the first few days. You should also avoid intense sun or UV light for the first few days after treatment.

How does it work?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance produced in our body, found in skin, joints and other connective tissue. Its role is to retain moisture in the body and aid collagen production. It can hold 1000 times its weight in water which makes it ideal for binding moisture in the skin. With age, however, hyaluronic acid production slows and the skin looks duller and dehydrated, with fine lines and wrinkles forming.

Profhilo contains one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid on the market. Because it is thermally bonded and not chemically bonded it acts as a hydrator not a filler. It is injected just underneath the surface of the skin where it disperses quickly and reacts with your own tissue to instantly boost hydration. Over the next four weeks phase two kick in as it goes to work boosting elastin and collagen production. This effectively remodels the skin and giving it a plumper, smoother and firmer appearance.

What is the difference between Profhilo and Dermal Fillers?

There is only one similarity between the two; they are very different anti-aging treatments. Both involve the injection of Hyaluronic Acid to reverse signs of ageing but the similarities stop there.
The Hyaluronic Acid used in dermal filler injections is thicker and more viscous than the Profhilo injections' runny consistency. And, unlike the highly concentrated and purified Hyaluronic Acid used in Profhilo, the Hyaluronic Acid found in fillers is combined with other ingredients. So, while hyaluronic acid is the star of both injectables, the hyaluronic acid used in each is quite different.

When using fillers, only one area is targeted at a time. However, Profhilo treatment is not limited to a single location. Profhilo refreshes, plumps and tightens the entire face. This is due to the fact that once the Profhilo injections have delivered their ten shots of hydration, the Hyaluronic Acid begins to disperse beneath the skin, spreading its moisturising magic across the entire face.
While dermal fillers are used to change the shape of facial features, replace lost volume due to ageing, and contour the face, Profhilo does not volumize or structure the face.

Am I suitable for Profhilo?

We use Profhilo to create an airbrushed skin effect on patients of all ages. It is especially popular with patients over the age of 30.

If you are not happy with your skin laxity, have crepey or thin skin as well as other signs of ageing such as fine lines or wrinkles, you could be suitable for Profhilo.

Are there any risks or side effects?

There are no long-term side effects with Profhilo as it is metabolised by the body completely. Some people can experience some redness, slight bruising, tenderness and possible itching at the injection sites, but these will subside in a few hours to a day and is totally natural.
